For years, the science fiction genre has perked up much interest. The idea of diving deep into an imaginary world where any technological or scientific advancement creates a drastic environmental change allows the human brain to explore endless possibilities. With that in mind, we wanted to look at the top 5 sci-fi series ever.

At number 5, we have “The 100.” The story itself is set 97 years after a near-human extinction. This Netflix show is about 100 human detainees who were sent back to earth hoping to find a way to make earth habitable again for the other human survivors. While they were back on earth, the 100 detainees found out that there were other human survivors on earth and had adapted their lifestyle to the harsh environment after the nuclear apocalypse.

4. Black Mirror

What was originally a BBC show in the U.K., but due to its popularity, Black Mirror was then bought by Netflix and eventually continued to produce more episodes. The show consists of standalone episodes you don’t have to watch in any specific order.

The series has a mix of different genres, with sci-fi underlying each episode. Each episode touches on the possibilities of what the world may become with various technologies consuming our life. Some episodes even touch on heavier topics such as femininity, masculinity, and even patriarchy.

3. The X-Files

What started as a bumpy road for this series that showcases weekly monsters quickly turned into a long-lasting series filled with longer story arcs where viewers and fans can see their favorite characters grow into something more.

The series revolved around the question of whether or not the species we know are living and breathing on earth are indeed the only ones in the universe. Due to its story development, the series even sparked two films before it ended its final season back in 2017.

2. Stranger Things

It might be a crime to make a sci-fi list without including one of the current well-known sci-fi series, Stranger Things.
